A consultant surgeon known as Tora Hamilton moves with Duncan, her husband, to remote Shetlands Highland which is some miles away from Scotland. Tora accidentally finds the dead body of a woman with rune marks on her skin and a gaping hole in the position where her heart once was. She pries into the unknown and discovers links to a legend that was too big to hold.
